Who We Are

Rebecca Wire, Founder and Director of GMWOur Story

In early 2004, Rebecca Wire was a stay at home mom looking for a way to teach online.  As a former tutor, she had worked with students in an ESL (English as a Second Language) setting and missed the interaction with English language learners.  Rebecca began a search but couldn't quite find what she was looking for.  Her husband, Andrew, suggested she create her own website and teach the way she wanted to teach.  Guide My Words was born from that suggestion.  The website began in March of 2004 and GMW quickly had its first student, a woman from China.  Later that same year, Guide My Words partnered with Pillar Church in Dumfries, Virginia.  Together Pillar and GMW hope to reach the local community with English help focusing on the message of the Bible.

Our Name

In the eighth chapter of Acts (a book in the New Testament) a man named Philip is led by the Holy Spirit to an Ethiopian man.  The Ethiopian is reading from the book of Isaiah (found in the Old Testament of the Bible).  Philip asks him if he understands what he is reading.  The man replies, "How can I, unless someone guides me?"  Philip sits down with him and begins to explain the message of the Bible to the man.   Philip helped the man to understand what the Bible was saying.  The man soon understood and believed God.  He chose to follow God.  (Acts 8:30-39)

Our students are asking their English speaking teachers and friends to help guide their words.  By using the Bible to help students with their English, we are sharing the greatest words that we can share with them.  The Bible contains the words of God!  As believers, we want God to be guiding our words as we teach others about Him.  "Guide My Words" is a request from our students and a prayer from their teachers.

Our Beliefs

The Bible is the Word of God.  It is divinely inspired by God and is without error.  The Bible is the ultimate authority for every aspect of our lives.

There is one and only one living and true God.  God is eternal and reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

Mankind is separated from God because of sin and disobedience.  Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and that grace was demonstrated by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.

In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, God the Son was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  Jesus lived a perfect life and presented himself as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind by dying upon the cross.  He rose from the dead and ascended to heaven where he sits at the right hand of God the Father.  He will return in the flesh one day to establish His kingdom on Earth.  He is the One Mediator, fully God, fully man and it is only through Jesus that there can be a reconciliation between God and man.

There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.  Salvation is a gift of God’s grace.  This gift is received by faith in Christ and a desire to become what the Bible calls a “new creation” or regeneration.  It is a change of heart brought about by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The gift of salvation is expressed by an individual’s repentance, recognition of the death of Christ as full payment for sin, and acceptance of the risen Christ as Savior, Lord and God.

There will be a final resurrection of all mankind. When God chooses to end this world, there will be a final judgment of all men. Those who have found salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, will be resurrected into everlasting life and joy with God in heaven. Those who have rejected faith in Jesus Christ will be resurrected into everlasting punishment.

It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man's spirit by God's Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. Missionary effort is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness supported by a Christian lifestyle, and by other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.
